We now...'Mismanagement of local officials'? We now know, from Chinese sources, that the eternal Socialist ruler of China knew about the virus, was in fact 'on top of it' as the English translation of his speech said, since JANUARY 7. Sure local officials are terrible, but don't buy into that narrative that the CPC tries to spin: 'Central Government good, local officials bad'. Apart from that minor point, I totally agree with you and I think, with the limited information that we have, you're basically doing the right thing whenever you follow your heart. I'm sure leaving your beloved and family behind was difficult, but the situation is still relatively good in Guangzhou. I tried every thing I could think of: drank and drank ice cold water until I was visiting the toilet like clock work. Soaked in cold water, sat in front of a fan, kept my head wet, wore loose light clothes. I was so busy trying to stay cool enough I hardly got anything done. My husband bought a one room window air conditioner and we slept in that room. The next day I had the whole house cleaned and dinner made. Just having a place to escape the heat and not having to sleep in the heat made all the difference. I don't like A/C and try and avoid it, but I've found that some days are just too hot to not have a cool place to escape to.Maria Kirbyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03156811168562757857noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8765686570074658139.post-48049907937685163172013-06-19T21:14:56.743+08:002013-06-19T21:14:56.743+08:00Now the technician is telling me that if I bought ...Now the technician is telling me that if I bought a car in America, I would not expect it to be serviced in another country. In fact, I am pretty sure that if I bought a Honda in the US and moved to Canada or Timbuktu, even if the parts were different, the Honda man in the tundra or the man in the African desert would help me out.

It turns out that I will need to pay for a battery shipping waiver (since iPhone batteries cannot be removed for shipping), shipping, and maybe an import/export excise fee/tax. This is farcical.

I asked if I bought a second iPhone in China and move back to the US whether I would then be able to get it fixed in the US or would need to ship it back to China. The answer was, "Yes, you would need to do that." On the other hand, you have undocumented illegal immigrants who are given a short cut. Can it be more ridiculous. But it doesn't matter anymore to me, because I've decided to leave this country, that is not certainly not welcoming law-abiding international students who wish to make a contribution. I've lost all my expectation for this country. Actually I regret having come here for graduate studies, I should've have gone to Canada in the first place, their policies are so favorable to international students who study in the Canada. They allow international students to work off campus while in the US, it is strictly prohibited. They offer numerous channels for international students to stay and live there after graduation, unlike the US, who tries every way possible to drive us out after sucking our money.
